The main author I will use is Esping-Andersen, who wrote a famous and very quoted book called The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism11. The country groups derived in this literature are also very different from those we describe here. Book Description: Few discussions in modern social science have occupied as much attention as the changing nature of welfare states in Western societies. It work makes a typology of social regimes in Europe. Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism Esping-Andersen wrote “The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism” in the belief that previous theoretical models of the welfare state were inadequate. Esping-Andersen outlined three worlds of welfare capitalism in. Garrett, Geoffrey (1998), Partisan Politics in the Global Economy, Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. Whether or not and to what extent elites could roll back welfare provisions depended, according to Esping-Anderson, on the strength of political class coalitions. The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism, Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1990. Esping Andersen, Gosta (1990), The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism, Princeton, N.J.: Princeton University Press. Variables and differentiation categories are completely different. European countries could then be seen to belong to different welfare regimes and types of capitalism.
